How common is the use of Slim / Twig?

Hey everyone!
Treehouse showed us how to use Slim (micro) framework and Twig in PHP projects. I assume there're other options. Is it worth today to spend time practicing this option, is it common to use slim in web developement or it's rather just a plus?
