It looks like you got everything right, you just forgot to close off your select tag. Take a look at the code below :)

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>HTML Forms</title>
  </head>
  <body>

    <form action="index.html" method="post">
      <h1>Shirt Order Form</h1>
      <label for= "color"> Shirt Color</label>
      <select id= "color" name= "shirt_color">
        <option value= "red"> Red </option>
         <option value= "yellow"> Yellow </option>
        <option value= "Purple"> Purple </option>
         <option value= "Blue"> Blue </option>
         <option value= "Green"> Green </option>
         <option value= "Orange"> Orange </option>
      </select>
        <button type= "submit"> Place Order </button>
    </form>

  </body>
</html>

I made the same mistake. Perhaps the feedback could be updated to say something to the effect of, "Did you close your select tag?" instead of "You need to add a <button> element within the form." :)
