How do i create my own animation?

In the beginning android tutorial (Crystal Ball), we are given a bunch of png files and a ball_animation.xml file. How do I create my own animation file and the png files? where can I learn such magic from?

I've found a link which you might find helpful. APNG
In the past I've used Photoshop to make the animated png. However, I just gave the APNG software a try. Ok, not so great but yeah for learning purposes it does the trick pretty well.
