General Discussion

How do I migrate a website from Wix.com to a new web host? Wix claims it is impossible to export files from them.

On Wix Help Server "It is not possible to export or embed files, pages or sites, created using the Wix Editor, to another external destination or host. All Wix sites must be hosted on the Wix servers. It is also not possible to embed your Wix site onto an external site. When you embed a site into an external location, Wix is no longer in control of the way that your site appears or functions, and therefore, cannot provide support. In addition, Google Analytics and search engine crawlers are not able to work properly with an embedded site."

This is probably true, there probably isn't a way to actually move a wix site off of wix. I think you're stuck starting over from scratch.

Wix has undoubtedly their own, custom, content management system that users build their own sites within. I'm sure the sites can not stand alone outside of the wix ecosystem. I don't know if you're a wordpress user at all, but it would be like saying you can't take just a wordpress theme and use it outside of the wordpress core; it wouldn't work.

Wix is proprietary code, they don't want people using their site and leaving, so they have made it impossible to do just that.

My fears exactly!

Ok. Thank you. I'm going to consider my options...
