How do I recreate the memory leak in the console prior to unmounting (as shown)?

I'm trying to recreate the memory leak in the console prior to unmounting (as shown in the video)... Guil said that he logged the elapsed time to the console, but never shows the code for that test. However, when I attempt: console.log(this.state.elapsedTime), I just get a value of 0. Is that the right line of code to test the memory leak in the console?
