how do I write a simple line increment by one?

Question

I need to write a method and increment by 1 the "laps" of a goKart class object

GoKart.java

class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String color;
  private int barCount;
  private int lapsDriven;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    this.color = color;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return color;
  }

  public void charge() {
    barCount = MAX_BARS;
  }

  public void int drive(){
    lapsDriven = lapsDriven + 1;
    }
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return barCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return MAX_BARS == barCount;
  }
}

there is a shorthand method used for it which the compiler in this case validates. this is given as suppose u need to increament x by 1; we can generally write it as x=x+1; but in short hand method we can write

x += 1 ; this is equivalent to x=x+1;

hopefully this will work

It's correct, you just left an unnecessary curly brace after the drive() method, that should be the problem. By the way, variable += <increment value> or, if you want to increment by one, variable++ are useful shorthands for incrementing values.
