How do you know if you are ready?

I've been programming for a long time. I would like to program professionally. But how do I know if I'm ready? TeamTreeHouse is helping alot to see what I know but I'm not sure if I know enough/ Am I ready to be a professional programmer?

Start by creating your own programs and maybe even sell them. If you have no trouble creating them then I'd say you're ready :)

Apply for jobs, get interviews, get job and then start applying your skills.

You'll come across lots of things you don't know, but I find when things need to get done you'll find a way.
