How does TeamTreehouse do their teamtreehouse.com/{username}.json?

I am trying to implement a similar solution on my website to pull data out... Is this some sort of open source plugin, or is this a custom solution by Team Treehouse?

This is an example of a web API. It is a common way to transfer information on the web and there are a myriad of ways to create one (here is just one example for Python). Check out this Wikipedia for more info on web APIs.
