9,767 PointsHow important do you think nested comments are?
Building one of my company's internal project sites and am doing the wonderful task of creating the comments section in WordPress. Stock commenting system in WP is awful, no AJAX, styling and layout is horrible.
So, I'm looking to add some Ajax to the comments and sort out layout. Layout no problem, grabbed a plugin to allow for Ajax posting and editing of comment but there is absolutely nothing out there for Ajax comment reply.
We all know the YouTube way of doing it and that's what I plan to do. Have the text area reply below the comment that's being replied too.
What I'm wandering is, how important is being able to reply to other people's comments? Do you guys in your experience and opinions, think it is an essential part of the UX on a website?
Thanks.

9,767 PointsI agree with you. Think I'm going to have to build a new commenting plugin for WP. Oh joy! lol.

9,767 PointsCool Andrew Chalkley. I got them working in the end somewhere around 80% of how I want to. Move onto the rest of the site and come back to comments in the near future.

5,540 PointsHey Matthew, I do think being able to nest comments / reply to another users comment is an important function. It keeps the structure of commenting neat and easy to follow. If this function is not there then people will end up re-writing the original comment in quote marks first, then replying to it underneath that trying to make it clear what they are commenting on if it is not the parent topic of the page.
But this is just how I feel so see what others think.
