How is the developer able to expand to the width of any screen by using a 29px width slice, vs something wider?

For example, in a uitableviewcell. Is there an option for creating a patterned background by tiling the image?

Good question. If I'm understanding your question correctly then the answer is that by default the image will repeat, filling the background of the content area. If you specify for it not to repeat it would then only be 29px.

I was wondering the same thing... but if the developer has the image repeat, how does he or she account for the rounded corners?
