17,774 PointsI live in Rialto, CA - about an hour away from L.A.
All the jobs are in L.A lol.
Where I live, it's hard for me to find developers to use on projects. I have a team of roughly 10-12 creatives, a mixture of web designers, developers, graphic designers, etc. I have to train some of the graphic designers to take on web development tasks since I can't find reliable or local developers in the area. However, there are a lot of jobs in L.A for programmers, developers and graphic designers alike.
The biggest issue when I'm hiring someone is that they think that throwing a bunch of names at me of languages or software they know is going to get them the job. It's not. You need samples of work you've done. I don't expect them to know all terms I throw at them since I can barely remember my own name, but I do expect them to figure out things on their own if I give them a theoretical problem of sorts.

5,039 PointsThank you for telling me your example. I will remeber what you have said above in my heart. The key is i am able to solve the real world problem ,not just learning many different programming languages.

5,039 PointsIt is just one more question. You said you are training some of the graphic designers to take on web development tasks. What kind of software does your team have to use for web development tasks? Photoshop? Or what?

17,774 Points@[Jonathan Sum(AKA GoogleSearch[Arma2oa])](user:6164812) - for my graphic designers, I start them off with HTML/CSS - some of them know the basics, but I rather teach them from scratch. After that, I move them to JS, PHP, MySQL. I only teach them the basics, how to navigate documentation, to debug and how to get 'un-stuck'. They're already graphic designers, so they use software like InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for work assigned to them. For the web stuff, I have them stick to simple tools like Sublime, I personally use PHP Storm. I've been using Codepen.io to have them build little portfolios too. What they learn with us, they can use elsewhere and it only adds to their toolbox, it makes them more flexible in terms of what kind of work they can do. For me, it helps me in the sense that I don't depend on just one person to do a specific type of task. So training them helps me in the long run as well. Not sure if that answered your question, lol.
Add: Just a quick note - I have them use Codecademy.com and FreeCodeCamp to learn web development as well. Great tools for beginners to learn the basics. They're both free. I mention TTH to them if they want to pay, TTH is definitely worth it. But most of them stick to the free stuff.
