How long until job worthy?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'd like to ask the question again for my own peace of mind :)

How long until I can realistically secure a job in Web Development/ Web Design?

I am able to currently learn for 20+ hours a week due to only working in a part time job. I also intend to start my own side projects, create a portfolio and get involved on the forums whilst I am learning.

But for various reasons I need to get employable asap. And was just wondering what kind of time frame I'm looking at.

Thanks :)

I managed to get 2 job offers after a couple months of self teaching. Junior position with minimum wage but it's a great stepping stone. You get out what you put in. I offered to work for free for the first couple weeks to get my foot in the door.

That was what I was hoping to hear :)

Originally I was planning to do an apprenticeship. But due to moving house in 4 or so months, it doesn't make it the most ideal option.

All I need is a foot in the door :)

And out of curiosity, what skills did you have by the time you got your first job?
