How much to charge for an app design

I just interviewed for a User Interface Design contract to design a music app and it is extremely likely that I would get it. I was honest that I have never designed an application before and need to do some more research before I could get back to them with a price. They already have a functional prototype they just need the User Interface. I will be working with an iOS developer and they are hiring an Android developer.

I would like to know from someone who is already a freelance app designer and developer what their design process is, how they export their assets, how long it takes them to complete a project like this, and how much they charge.

Hey Veronica Rivera

I'd highly recommend you read a book written by Mike Monteiro called "Design is a Job". Pricing your services is a difficult question that varies based on a lot of criteria: client need, your experience, the market conditions, and project scope among many others.

tl;dr Your first instinct will be to sell yourself short—don't. Make sure there's a contract with payment terms that are not contingent on their acceptance or use of the work.

Thanks for your answer. I appreciate the book reference and will definitely consider the points you made about pricing. I needed more help on the lines of the design process, exporting the assets, and basically what to consider when designing a native, mobile app. Since then I saw the Mobile App Design for iOS course on Treehouse and that helped me out a lot.

Thank you!

Hello Veronica, how are you? I am also working on some iOS projects and I have watched "Mobile App Design for iOS course on Treehouse" too. I would like to get in touch with you. I hope you like the idea! I am already a UI / UX Designer, I am more than happy to help you. https://twitter.com/rosina_

Oh yeah. You reached out to me on twitter. Thanks. I will send you a message.
