How to pass JSON string to variable?

I tried doing the following:

var myData; //global variable
$.getJSON('https://teamtreehouse.com/myprofile?format=json', function (data) {
    myData = data;
  });

When I tried to access the variable via the console, I got

"undefined[object Object]"

Since you're trying to console.log before the whole object was retrieved. You should handle console.log on the .done event of the $.getJSON function, like this -

$.getJSON('https://teamtreehouse.com/someuser?format=json', function (data) {
    myData += data;
  }).done(function(myData) {
    console.log(myData);
  });
