HTML 5 Tags

So I'm coding a website and I'm working on doing the structure/layout stuff i do my css and html at the same time easier for me at least. I'm kind of confused on what to use for what, like I know the new HTML 5 tags have come in so we don't have to keep using <div>'s but when do you use a <aside> or <section> are they made to hold images/videos and so on. or are these tags made for text? are they for layout? thanks

This post should help you understand the semantics of using "new" HTML5 structural elements
