HTML ID

Is an ID can be only used for a tag at once? Is it correct.
Is an ID can be only used for a tag at once in a html file but I can use it in other place/other HTML file as many times as I want?

Use IDs when there is only one occurence per page. Use classes when there are one or more occurences per page.
