HTML Overlay

I have a overlay which appears when I press a button. However I would like the content of the overlay to get its information from a separate HTML document instead of just the paragraph which it currently references?

<div id="specialBox">
  <p>Special box content ...</p>
  <button onmousedown="toggleOverlay()">Close Overlay</button>
</div>

You could replace the paragraph with an iframe which loads the external html file.
