Hybrid vs. Native Mobile Applications

Where do you think mobile development is heading in the future? Should I concentrate on learning native or hybrid mobile application development? Are hybrid apps still lacking performance or are they constantly improving and could possibly overtake the whole industry? I am interested in your opinions...

We've been using ionic for a bit and the entire framework is full of excellence. The folks at Drifty also have quite a few other things in the works to help continue to build out ionic. Would love to see Team Treehouse cover a few of the Angular connections and how to work even more as getting it setup was a small beast.
