if you are task 1 you don't need to declare a new variable. They already have one there for you. You just need to set the pre-existing userName to equal id.toUpperCase();

if you are talking about the second challenge you need to append a # and the Last name. which should look something like this:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
