I can't get the launch

I can't get to the 4.1 option. only 4.4. also, when I go to hit the run it doesn't take me to the launch screen

I can tell you the answer of you first question. The video was captured some time ago, and then there were not 4.4. Just use 4.4., it shouldn't matter...

Go ahead and use Android 4.4. I updated the bundles recently to include the most recent API version. I added some notes in the "Teacher's Notes" section on the video page to help navigate the differences. Once you get past these early differences the rest of the project is very similar:
