Python Flask Basics Character Builder Forms

I don't agree with the way Flask is beeing thought.

I haven't got that much into the course yet. But, the flask course specifically is not really TEACHING much. Most of the time I'm just retyping what Kenneth types in. Not really getting an explanation of how it works, or why... I wish Treehouse would give us some kind of feedback on opinions about the course...

I feel the same. Most of the stuff I have to Google or learn from other notes/sources online. The explanations are not very detailed in the course.

i mean, myself i have found the course difficult. To an extent, I agree with you. I am nearly finishing the course and have a feeling that I will need to repeat the course again.

I found that having a personal project in mind helps a lot. With every video, I ask myself "How do I incorporate this into my personal project?" I then go and actually do the parts that I feel like I can now tackle with the newfound knowledge that the tutorial teaches me. The downside is that I have to spend a lot of time doing things one way, then finding out a better way, and then re building it--but that's not really a downside either, since I end up learning what to do and what not to do. Do that and I feel like it will give you a much better understanding of the framework.

Good luck!

yeah totally agree! I have to refer to outside sources mostly youtube instruction. With those outside sources treehouse flask would leave me totally stuck. On the other hand if left with just youtube tutorials and couldnt get at treehouse course I would be just fine. This course is a mess unfortunately.

I really liked learning trough treehouse so far, but since i got into flask I am barely understanding. I am totally lost at the beginning of the character builder section. I agree with Eric this course needs modification.

I have had to go back and rewatch videos myself in some areas. The problem is that in order to learn a lot of what he is trying to teach properly you have to at least start the videos for html and in some parts javascript. He does not say that you need to start these at this point directly but he does say in the beginning of this course that you will need to dust off your html skills in order to do what he is doing which would tell me to start on the html course if I don't know how to do html. He should say it more directly but I have found more and more that with coding you have to learn multiple languages in order to know what is going on with something like flask and even more so with more complicated programs. It is also helpful that after you finish a series of videos to stop and look up more info about what you are trying to learn in a more real world way.

That's not the problem here. I have HTML and JS knowledge and my complaints about the Flask course have nothing to do with html or js.

i totally agree, this course is awful and it should be removed from treehouse or even updated. this guy makes no explanations just silly jokes who add nothing to the teaching experience.

yes, 2021 and apparently the course has not been updated. You have to fend for yourself to understand anything. The best course I took here so far was the SQL course. This one is not good at all.

The entire Python coursework of TeamTreehouse does not 'teach' actual knowledge and material, as much as it records streams of a person who knows Python doing cute little projects. Other courses in treehouse are great, but I would refer to a few YouTubers for Python instruction before TeamTreehouse Python. I do hope that Treehouse sees this post and creates courses that TEACH python because I enjoy the Treehouse platform. I am nearly done the intermediate course in Python but decided to just come back to Flask Basics and redo the entire thing because it is so poorly taught.
