Why is this not good?

It's saying to write the style tag above the h1 tag. not between the body tag.

so should look like this:

<body>
  <style>
  </style>
    <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
</body>

The Second step asks you to select the h1 tag.

so should look like this:

<body>
  <style>

    h1 {}

  </style>
    <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
</body>

then the last step ask to apply a font color = green. :

<body>
  <style>

    h1 {color: green;}

  </style>
    <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>

You have no opening tags. Get rid of </style> and then it should show up.
