i don't know what i'm doing wrong here

i know i need to add something, but i have absolutely no clue what

It's not clear which task you are doing, but adding the element to the list doesn't happen until task 2.

Task 1 has you create a new element and call it $newStudent, but there's no variable by that name here. Remember with each step to add to the code from previous step(s) and not replace it.
