hi yisroel stadler it's asking you to take the variable id and convert it to all uppercase with the toUpperCase method and store the results in a new variable called userName. like so

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
console.log(userName);

below you used the toUpperCase() method on the userName. You have to use it on the id, because that's what you want to convert to all upper case, not the userName variable. The userName variable is to store the results of the toUpperCase() method. 

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = "23188xtrSmith";
console.log(userName.toUpperCase());
