JavaScript JavaScript and the DOM (Retiring) Getting a Handle on the DOM Selecting by Id

I don't understand the problem.

it said there is an unexpected token d. I'm not sure what that means.

js/app.js
let button document.getElementById('sayPhrase');
let input;

button.addEventListener('click', () => {
  alert(input.value);
});
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Phrase Sayer</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <p><input type="text" id="phraseText"></p>
    <p><button id="sayPhrase">Say Phrase</button></p>
    <script src="js/app.js"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Hey there! It is reading the "d" in "document" but is confused because it expects an assignment operator. Don't forget to assign your selection to the variable button with an "=" operator:

//Added = operator to line 1
let button = document.getElementById('sayPhrase');

Thanks, I can't believe I made such a simple mistake. ?
