I don't understand where I did wrong

I tried in spareWords.shift() and it returns "The"

Hi David, That is correct. How about if you put a semi-colon at the end var firstWord = spareWords.shift(); if it still doesn't work, please share the rest of the code.

Thanks, Winnie. The mistake I made is delete the "var firstWord ="
