16,001 PointsI have 2 questions regarding the professional profile under the career program.
I'm assuming the whole career program is something of a work in progress at this point, but there are a couple of things that look like bugs to me. One is that, although I have set up a profile at GitHub, it won't show me as connected there, like it does with LinkedIn. Do I have to pass a specific course or do some other specific step to get that association with GitHub acknowledged? The other is that the start dates for some of my education experiences keep getting reset to match the end dates, which clearly is not right, in two of the cases. Nobody that I know of can finish a 4-year degree in a year, no matter how much of a genius they are. So, can that be fixed, or is that something that will only stay put once a certain number of prior items are complete in the profile overall? Would love to have one (or more) of the staff people respond. Thank you!

13,116 PointsI am not sure of what you mean by something or someone expecting you to finish your degree in one year. What do the start - end dates refer to: Treehouse or GitHub?
Now about GitHub, where does it say you are not connected there?
If you mean your profile here on treehouse I suggest you are already logged into GitHub when you are trying to link your profile. Just clicking on the button in the Treehouse settings does most of the work, all you have to do then is accept the exchange of information. If you have other technical issues send an email at help@teamtreehouse.com (working days on Treehouse are usually from Monday - Thurday, so you might get a delay in reply from the support staff since today is Friday)
If you mean you have issues with your GitHub, I suggest you contact them once you sign into your account. They seem to be really helpful and kind in their replies (at least the one time I tried). You can contact them through Contact GitHub.
Also in this question I don't get what you are asking about "So, can that be fixed, or is that something that will only stay put once a certain number of prior items are complete in the profile overall? " Are you talking about your Treehouse or GitHub profile?
Ken Alger
Treehouse TeacherKathryn;
I am seeing the same issue with start/end dates under Education. My GitHub account is currently connected to my CP profile, I cannot remember setting it up specifically so it must have automagically been ported over from my regular Treehouse profile. Can you verify in your User Profile that your GitHub information is correct and that the Unlink GitHub Account option exists there? If it does not there probably is an error connecting to your GitHub account from the Treehouse site.
Have you send it a bug report on the Education issue? I will send one in as well.
Thanks for bringing this up and please post back with more questions!
Happy coding,
Ken

Web Development Techdegree Student 3,317 PointsHi Kathryn and Ken,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention! There was indeed a bug which prevented saving the end year and I pushed out a fix this morning. Regarding linking your GitHub account, I would not expect it to work if you had to sign up for GitHub first. Now that you have your GitHub account set up, can you try the Link GitHub Account button again?
For anyone else reading this, this refers to Treehouse's new Career Program which is currently available only to Code Oregon participants. We're working to expand and accept more students, but we're trying to make sure that there are job opportunities available first. Stay tuned!

16,001 PointsI could have sworn I posted an earlier comment under Ken's response, but I guess something burped. Anyway, I have resolved the GitHub linking issue and that's connected now. The problem with the start dates (not the end dates, which appeared to be working fine before, but then, what the problem appears to be sometimes isn't exactly what it really is) is fixed, as well. The correct dates are now entered and remain in place. So, I'm a happy camper, and I thank you all!

16,001 PointsThe comment about the degree in one year was an attempt at humor. Just to be clear, I am speaking specifically about what shows up in my "professional profile" under "Career Program" which I access by the bottom icon of the upper set in the navigational links to the left. I am taking courses/tracks at Treehouse via CodeOregon and I am speaking of my profile at Treehouse under the "Career Program" label. There is a link at the end of the professional profile, actually, two links, one for linking to LinkedIn and one for linking to GitHub. Since I already had a LinkedIn profile, I followed that link on Treehouse and connected that with no trouble. But when I followed the link for GitHub and set up a profile there, when I came back to Treehouse, the link shows as not connected for GitHub. That is what I am talking about.
Above that, in the professional profile, there is an area for filling in educational history. I filled in the information, including the start and end dates for the three educational experiences I included in the history. One of them was a summer program, with start and end dates the same year; no problem there. But the other two were a community college certificate and a college degree, neither of which were started and ended in the same year. Every time I go back into the professional profile to check changes, the start dates for the community college certificate and the college degree are set back so that they are the same as the end dates! That is incorrect, and frankly, very frustrating to have them revert to wrong information every time I go back into the professional profile to check on changes or updates. I fix them, and they keep reverting to the wrong information. This makes no sense to me, so I assume it is a glitch in the program,. My thought was, since I have not completed all the stuff above that, that maybe the professional profile was set to not accept later information until the earlier blanks were all completed, or at least, to not accept all of it.
As far as I can tell, my GitHub profile is working fine. I downloaded a program there earlier, to use in future coding, and had no problem doing that. I don't think GitHub is the issue, but I suppose there might be a tie-in that I don't see. Which was part of what I was trying to get at. GitHub is a totally new thing for me, and I don't pretend to understand all of it, or how it works, yet. I may need to take a side trip into a library course or two, to address that information gap.
I hoped that someone who understands how the professional profile under the Career Program is supposed to work, might see this and respond. It sounds like I do need to contact tech support to get a coherent answer, so I'll do that. Thanks for responding; I appreciate all efforts to help.

13,116 PointsOkay, I understand now. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I didn't know you have a Code Oregon account. It seems there are some extra's there. Yes contacting the support will help you sort out that issue and if it is a bug they'll get it fixed.
Did you verify your GitHub account as well?
