I have reinstalled MAMP and began a new install. But everytime I get to the test document part, my site does not show

Everytime I refresh the browser, my site does not display the word "test document", instead what appears first is the index.php link. And only when I click that link will the word "test document appear". Is this okay?

Have you tried renaming the original index.php to something else like "old.php", then have the name for your test document index.php? That should work.
