You just have to add id="featured-video" to the div containing the iframe element. The correct div is the one with a class of "grid_6 omega"

Here is my code that worked:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
        <link href='style.css' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
        <link href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Nunito:400,300,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
    </head>
<body>
    <div class="container">
        <div class="grid_6 omega" id="featured-video">
                <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/50610288?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0" width="400" height="225" frameborder="0"></iframe>
        </div>

    </div>
    <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js"></script>
    <script src="jquery.fitvids.js"></script>
    <script>
      $(document).ready(function(){
        $("#featured-video").fitVids();
      });
</script>
</body>

</html>
