The current version of Drupal is 8

While Drupal 8 is the current version many large organizations are still using Drupal 7. There are a lot of tools that need to be converted over to Drupal 8 that are not available. And that doesn't include any custom modules built for specific tasks for an organization. All that needs to be rebuilt in the new version of Drupal. I work for a large university and in talking with the other universities at DrupalCon it will be a few years to complete that transition.
