I typed EXACTLY what I was supposed to... no idea why it won't accept it

document.getElementById('linkName');

it's not working?

The error message you receive is:

Make sure that you get the value of the selected 'input' element

So far you have selected the element. You need to append .value to that to get the value.

You need to make sure you are storing the value in the variable. '.value' at the end will take care of that.

var inputValue = document.getElementById('linkName').value;
