with an if/else if/else statement, only the if and else if have conditions

the else is basically saying "if none of these other conditions are true, then run this code"

if ( isAdmin ) {
    alert('Welcome administrator');
} else if (isStudent) {
  alert('Welcome student');
} else {
  alert("Who are you?");
}
