4,344 PointsIdeas for Building a Portfolio?
Hi Everyone,
I'm a new TreeHouse Member working on the Front End Development Track. I was focusing on JS for a while, but after completing the CSS Basics track, I realized that I really want to focus on design for a while. (I can thank Guil for explaining it so succinctly. You da man!) I figured it'd be best to start a small freelancing business building websites for small businesses before I dive back into studying JS at a greater depth.
I want to be ready to start bidding for jobs before the end of Spring. To you experienced HTML5/CSS3/JQuery guys, could you please share some suggestions on some cool websites to build to build up a portfolio?
I'd also love to collaborate with anyone looking to get an extra hand on some projects. Just shoot me a reply.
Thanks!

Thats a good start id say. If you want to freelance, the best thing to do is to have some back-end knowledge straight away. You could learn about WordPress, its easy. You can learn how to make WP themes in like 2-3weeks. I did my sites here , i coded from full HTML/CSS to jQuery(one thing :D) to WordPress. Well, i used bootstrap for the grid system. Both of them mine.
The design part well, it took me like 5 bad design to get going with what I do now. I basically look hour and hour on random sites, even if im at college, i go on source and look at the code and design, and i can tell you i got a little bit better. I look for the things i like. When Im doing the actuall webiste, i get like 30different sites, and then think about the UI and features i like, then i merge them, and or come up with something my own, as in menaing enchance somehting. Well, you can see on my site how i did it, if you like it. Yeah.. it has this kind of bootstrap feel.
If you want to collaborate you can join us right here and then check your email.
I'm actually leanring JS OOP right now, so we could learn together too, maybe.
Hope it helps!

2,400 PointsHey Fred,
I'm also in the process of developing my portfolio. If you want some inspiration, check out mrhuffman.github.io; very much a work in progress!
The fancy simulation of the Chelyabinsk asteroid impact will be online later on today, probably. Still some code to write.
Cheers!

4,344 PointsThanks Arjuna. I like the focus on more scientific projects. I've been so caught up on creating business oriented websites that I've needed to remind myself that we're designing websites for the future. Cool stuff!

2,400 PointsAt some point I guess all of us will have to develop applications of a business oriented nature, but yea, it's fun to change things up and do something different. Keep us posted on your progress.
I finally uploaded the 3D simulation of the Chelyabinsk impact, you can find it here: http://mrhuffman.github.io/projects/Chelyabinsk/index.html

4,344 PointsMagdalena Popescu I'd be happy to collaborate. I'm actually open to starting a mini side business with a few of the people working directly here. Maybe we could help each other out in finding gigs. :-)

2,400 PointsAre you asking me, Konrad? The code is available on GitHub where my account is mrhuffman.
But basically what I did was that I wrote an algorithm for solving n-body problems that, together with orbital state vectors from the paper you see mentioned in the credits section, I used to simulate the Chelyabinsk strike. Used THREE.js for the 3D animations.

Front End Web Development Techdegree Student 133 PointsIf you would like to start a business, I would gladly help you on the developing side of things. I've been struggling to get to join someone for years, althrough I know quite a bit of coding I can't do anything by my own. I'd really love to make projects with you.
