CSS Sass Basics (retired) Getting Started with Sass Advanced Nesting

If i want to access <a> tags within <div> of class .footer using the & wouldn't I just use ".footer & { }" within my "a"

The exact task on treehouse is "We want to add an exception for <a> tags that are in the <div> with a class of .footer: those links should be purple. Use the post-selector ampersand to achieve this." when they mention "exception" does that just mean an inline adjustment?

I think "exception" just means "instead of the color they would be otherwise".

Hi,

I have had a go at the quiz and dropped the answer below, the last question which is what you are referring to is quite strange really and to be honest it seems like something that has been done simply to illustrate a use of the post-selector & nothing more than that.

/* Write your SCSS code below. */
p {

  a {
    color: red;

    div.footer & {
      color: purple;
    }
  }

  > a {
    color: blue;

    &:hover {
      opacity: 0.5;
    }
  }

}

Hope this helps, Craig
