78 PointsI'm absolutely new to programming. Is this the right place?
Hi. I am absolutely new to programming. I've never coded anything in my life and I don't have a technical background. I've just made a decision to learn programming because there are ideas regarding mobile apps that I want to make come real. I've tried to find free sources online but most of them are simply outdated. I ended up registering at this website. My question is - am I in the right place? Can someone with absolutely NO knowledge of programming start here? Or is this place for those who already know the basics but want to learn more? Thanks in advance.

6,944 PointsYes. This is a fantastic place to start. If you have absolutely 0 technical background then SOME lessons at first might seem a little confusing, although most of the things are explained with all the details.
My best tip would be - give yourself a little time. If you don't understand some concepts or ideas - ask here in forum or go to google and get lost in searching for a while. If you have 0 knowledge it will be quite a few concepts and ideas to learn and understand. This is possible, but keep in mind - it requires patience.
I would say 4-6 months of TeamTreehouse, hard work and daily practice should give you a perfect start to your goal. Best of luck!

7,625 PointsI'm relatively new myself, but so far I can say absolutely yes.
My advice: Don't exclusively use Treehouse. Learn things one topic at a time, and use other online resources, courses, books, and people to supplement what you're learning here. Something you may not understand here might click when you re-do a similar lesson in Codecademy or CodeSchool or Tuts+. All in all, Treehouse is the only one worth spending money on.

Treehouse TeacherIt's been a while since I was new to programming, but I definitely would have loved a site like this! Our goal is to make you comfortable without any prior experience. Hopefully our videos alone are enough to do that for you, but if you get stuck, frustrated, or just lose some motivation, we are here to help! We have a wonderful community of students who are willing to help out, and everyone on our staff is happy to chat about whatever you're working on.
If you want to work on mobile (my specialty), check out the Mobile Tracks (Android, iPhone, or general Mobile). They focus on mobile technology but also include an "Introduction to Programming" course that will help solidify some basic concepts common to all programming languages and platforms.

Courses Plus Student 4,739 PointsEver heard the expression "You get what you pay for?" While there are tons of great resources for free out there, none of them are as well thought out and illustrated as the resources at TeamTreehouse. Indulge yourself in all that TeamTreehouse has to offer. You won't regret it.
By the way, I feel as though it is very easy for any beginner with a genuine interest in the fields offered to pick up the content. It all depends on your willingness to learn.

I have been a member of Treehouse since April of this year, and since then I have blown through most of the content. I love it, and it has more than paid off! I have been freelancing for local companies as well as working for web development firms, and recently I got a job from the Treehouse Job Board! I am now a full time developer working from home! Thanks Treehouse!
My best advice is to just not give up! If you have to hack through something the first time, go back and watch the videos again, do it again, until you get the material.
Good Luck!
