CSS CSS Basics (2014) Understanding Values and Units Styling the Intro Paragraph

I'm having trouble figuring out why it says I'm not targeting the span element nested inside the intro class.

I've created an id just for the one span class I'm trying to target and am seeing the code reflecting the outcome desired for the task when I click preview.

index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Lake Tahoe</title>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="page.css">
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css">
  </head>
  <body>
    <header id="top" class="main-header">
      <span class="title">Journey Through the Sierra Nevada Mountains</span>
      <h1>Lake Tahoe, California</h1>
    </header>
    <div class="primary-content t-border">
      <p class="intro">
        Lake Tahoe is one of the most <span id="span">breathtaking attractions</span> located in California. It's home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation, and tourist attractions. Snow and skiing are a significant part of the area's reputation.
      </p>
      <a href="#more">Find out more</a>
    </div>
    <footer class="main-footer">
      <p>All rights reserved to the state of <a href="#">California</a>.</p>
      <a href="#top">Back to top &raquo;</a>
    </footer>
  </body>
</html>
style.css
/* Complete the challenge by writing CSS below */
#span {
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: italic;
}

.intro {
    font-size: 1.25em;
  line-height: 1.6;
}

Because the exercise don't want that you create an id or class, just want you target the span INSIDE the .intro class.

Ana Medvedeva I think you should use the descendent selector instead of "giving id to the span element and then selecting it" . You can't create any id or classes by yourself in these quizzes , you must do only what's told in the instruction . So try this :

.intro span{
font-weight : bold,
font-style : italic
}

This worked, thanks so much for the help!
