I'm rather confused about using cocoapods.

First, Sam installs cocoapods, but were? I can't tell if it is in his home directory or some were else. Then, did some of the commands change? I keep seeing pod install, but I am not seeing him use it. Am I just missing it? I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through this.

Hi, check alcatraz.io But if you want to install pods as usually, try using commands without $ If you already know that, write me I can help you. I use alcatraz Xcode add-on which makes cocoa pods installation process much simpler.
