I'm trying to create a custom home page layout. Any tips/info on how to do this?
I'm using Pinboard theme by One Designs and I really like the text area right beneath the slider. I also want to add a video to the page.
Oh, yes, that makes perfect sense! Thanks for explaining that again. One of the easiest and fastest ways to create a layout is by using a framework. Below I've included some resources on building themes for Wordpress, as well as using frameworks.
Wordpress Courses & Workshops
- How to Build a WordPress Theme
- From Bootstrap to WordPress
- Building a WordPress Theme with Foundation 5
I know you're really referring to how creating a layout with a theme by One Designs might work, and for that you might have received some documentation with your purchase. But I'm guessing maybe they don't have the exact layout and customization you're looking for? If that's the case, it's kind of why I recommended the Treehouse resources above—they should help you become more familiar with how to customize Wordpress. The courses will help familiarize you with the inner workings of Wordpress theme customization. Also, be sure to check out the Codex.
Hope this is a little more clear! If not let me know .
Thanks, Dustin. I will look into that course. I'm not sure if it came across that I'm creating this site using Wordpress (Pinboard Theme). I'm wondering if I need to add some custom widget areas, modify the template used by the home page, etc. I want to be able to add video and additional text areas to the main content area of the home page. Does this make sense?
I truly appreciate your time and help, Dustin!
