General Discussion

In the app.js file, on line 9, add a click handler to the button.

("button").click(function() { }

It says there's a parse error in the syntax? What's wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I also typed this direct from his coding on the screen and got the same parse error

You're forgetting the jquery shorthand which is the "$".

$("button").click(function() { }

Ah ha! Indeed

You have to have the semi colon at the end:

$("button").click(function() { });

You can also use this simple and concise syntax:

$("button").click();
