In the console,what does the "$" sign in the end of the subdirectory name stand for?

Is that sign used to specifically highlight that this word is a name of certain subdirectory or maybe there is other abstruse reason that stands for it?

The "$" is just a common symbol used by a Linux command shell to indicate that it is ready for your input.

It's similar to the ">>>" that Python shows when you use it interactively.
