Indentation

Is it possible to have 'else' on a new line with the same indentation as 'if' or is it best practice to have 'else' follow the closed curly bracket of the 'if' condition?

For example, is it okay to write it like this:

if () {

}
else {

}

Rather than this:

if () {

} else {

}

JavaScript itself won't care, indenting is just for readability. And I've seen both styles used; but I think the second style is a bit more common, it's more compact, and I believe also easier to read.
