Install additional?

Do I have to install any additional programs or servers for php to work, it's working on my workspace on treehouse but it's not working in my usual editor.

PHP is server-side that means that it get executed on the server. So you can't just open it like a html file in the browser you need a server. personaly I use USBWebserver http://www.usbwebserver.net/ its fast and in 10 seconds you can set it up but you can also use XAMP https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html.
