INTERFACES: Still confused about Object obj as a parameter instead of Treet treet?

I'm still confused as to why he did Object obj as the parameter and not Treet treet instead? What was the point of that if he was going to downcast obj into a Treet anyway?

Sorry for posting 3 questions in a row, I'm sort of struggling on grasping Interfaces.
