iOs Advice needed!

Im looking for some advice regarding an iOs application.

Specifically im looking to create an app that is able to login to a system and display information about certain things, and possibly allow commands to be sent back to the server.

What would be the best method to implement a login, app & server side? How should the data be retrieved, JSON?

The problem i have is i cant seem to conceptualise how i would / should go about this. Ive looked for examples and help but things i come across seem to be to vague and not aimed at what i need.

I greatly appreciate any help or direction to any sort of help.

Have you looked into the "creating a self destructing app tutorial" it goes in depth about connect to a serving creating users that log in via the server and send commands to the server. Its my favorite iOS tutorial and taught me a lot.
