Is it necessary to pay a hosting site, like WebHostingforStudents, in order to use WordPress?

I had already purchased a domain in WordPress. Is hosting payment also needed?

If you want your website to be live to the world, then yes, you will need a host. If you just want to follow along with the videos, than no. You can install a software package like Xampp or MAMP/WAMP that will give you the software needed to run a wordpress site locally on your computer. To be very clear, when I say locally, it means only that one computer can see the site, but that's perfect for development.

When you say you bought a domain, do you mean a public domain name from a registrar like namecheap.com or something?

You could try on AWS, which offers one-year free host.
