Is programming for Android difficult? + Whatsapp

Hi

i would like to know is it difficult to learn how to program apps for Android? and how applications such as 'Whatsapp' work? Are such application built using only Java for example? or is it more complex than this?

Hi Suli, I've started programming with android a month ago and It is a lot of fun, sometimes it looks a bit hard when you see an entire page of code at first, but Treehouse will take you through it step by step. I think an app like whatsapp will be quite complicated and I don't think you'll have all knowledge to make such an app after the current two treahouse projects but its a great start. It is mostly written in java with some android terms and also a little bit of xml. I hope this helped!

I won't lie and say that programming for Android is easy, but it is enjoyable and our mission is to make it as easy as possible. The teachers and other students are here to help you, so definitely take a look at the Learn to Build Android Apps track!

It takes a lot of time to write an app like Whatsapp, even for an experienced developer, but it can be a very rewarding experience. The next Android project I'm working on, the Android version of Build a Self-Destructing Message iPhone App, will utilize Java and a back-end provided by parse.com to create a messaging app somewhat similar to Whatsapp. I'm aiming to release it in December, so if you work on the current stuff you should be ready just in time for it. :)

Pretty excited about this :-) self destroy app.
