isn't string += string + something akin to changing the value of the string?

Treehouse TeacherHi there! Yes, strings are immutable. It is not really changing the value of the string. In this case, you are overwriting the original value of the string with a completely new string. But you couldn't, for instance, remove a single letter from the middle of a string.
Hope this helps!
