Is the further reading section below the video a necessary read or you can skip that and just learn from the videos?

If you just do the videos, you will learn a lot.

If you spend the time to go through the extra credit, you will learn more and also consolidate your knowledge on how to implement the stuff you learned in the videos. Well worth doing, in my view.
