Is the 'self' keyword in PYTHON same as 'this' in other languages?

I'm learning about Classes and OOP in PYTHON and came across the 'self' keyword. Started wondering if it works the same as 'this' keyword in JavaScript etc.

I learned object oriented programming first in Java, and based on this module it seems that 'self' works the same as 'this' in Java. I am no expert though.
