Is there a free wordpress plugin that enables displaying image and text from a custom post in the widget area?

I am using woocommerce to build an ecommerce site. I want to highlight two of the products at the top of the home page by displaying their image and a short description side by side, not though hover effect. I can't seem to find a free plugin for this seemingly easy task. Or anyone can show me how to do this in code level is also fine.
